OUR MISSION: IN THE YEAR 2000, THE SALVAGED SAIL FROM THE DECOMMISSIONED AND SCRAPPED HULL OF THE USS GEORGE BANCROFT WAS PUT IN PLACE AND DEDICATED OUTSIDE THE BASE AT KINGSBAY, GEORGIA AS A MEMORIAL TO THE USS GEORGE BANCROFT SSBN 643. AFTER THAT, A REUNION WAS HELD IN OCTOBER. 2001, IN MYSTIC, CONNECTICUT, AT WHICH THE ASSOCIATION WAS FORMED AND THE FIRST COMMANDER, VICE COMMANDER, SECRETARY AND TREASURER WERE ELECTED. A SET OF BYLAWS WERE DRAWN UP AND ADOPTED.

IN THE BYLAWS IT STATES THE PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION WHICH IS TO PROMOTE AND PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF THE SUBMARINE AND ITS CREWS AND ESPECIALLY THOSE FORMER CREWMEMBERS WHO HAVE SINCE PASSED ON AND ARE NOW ON "ETERNAL PATROL" , TO OPERATE AS A VETERANS ORGANIZATION AND TO PROVIDE AND MAINTAIN AWARENESS AND COMRADARIE AMONG FORMER CREW MEMBERS, ENLISTED AND OFFICERS WHO HONORABLY SERVED ABOARD THE USS GEORGE BANCROFT SSBN 643, TO PROVIDE SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR ITS MEMBERS, & TO PLAN, SCHEDULE AND CONDUCT REUNIONS FOR ALL LIVING SHIPMATES, SPOUSES AND FAMILIES OF THOSE NO LONGER LIVING.

THE ORGANIZATION WILL CONDUCT PROGRAMS TO RENEW OLD ACQUAINTENCES AND TO PAY RESPECTS TO THOSE DECEASED CREWMEMBERS.

THE ASSOCIATION WILL ALSO SPONSOR OR PARTICIPATE IN LAWFULL ACTIVITIES WHICH WILL FURTHER THE PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION
